The National Ski Patrol's International Division conducted its annual OEC Skill Competency Test
On December 2nd, the Stuttgart Chapter of the National Ski Patrol's International Division successfully qualified new patrol candidates' Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) skills.
Five OEC patrol candidates met in Stuttgart, Germany on Saturday to have their newly-learned OEC skills evaluated. The evaluation covered a variety of first-aid techniques, including airway management skills, splint and oxygen use, and spinal immobilization (pictured). Candidates demonstrated these skills as part of a series of realistic role-play scenarios that presented an injured patient in need of first aid. Candidates were required to identify the patient's primary complaint, gather their relevant history, and scan for potential secondary injuries all while they demonstrated key OEC first-aid techniques.
Multiple senior members of the Stuttgart Chapter supported the event by administering the tests and serving as supporting role-players. All five patrol candidates successfully passed the evaluation, and will now transition to their on-the-mountain OEC and patroller evaluations this winter in Austria and Switzerland.
The International Division of the National Ski Patrol is the only ski patrol division based outside of the United States. Members of the International Division experience the same training opportunities and benefits as any U.S.-based NSP Patroller. In fact, given the small size of the International Division and our training focus, the International Division offers courses and advancement opportunities that are often considerably more difficult to find in the United States.
