Stuttgart Chapter begins its annual Outdoor Emergency Care course.

The National Ski Patrol chapter based in Stuttgart, Germany, began training a new group of patrol candidates this September.

Mr. George Roos, a long time Stuttgart Chapter member, leads the intensive training alongside many of the experienced local chapter members.  The classroom training will last 3 months, culminating for the candidates in both a written test, and a hands-on demonstration of life-saving techniques learned through the fall.  In the attached photo, Mr. Roos details the need for a thorough understanding of human anatomy to quickly and accurately assess patient injuries

Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) is the National Ski Patrol's (NSP) signature course offering.  This emergency medical responder course is tailored to the non-urban rescuer.  This course is required of all NSP patroller members, and is offered primarily through NSP patrols like the Stuttgart Chapter.

In an OEC Course, patrollers learn many aspects of outdoor care, including:

- Performing safe and effective stabilization and extrication of injured persons in the outdoor environment

- Scene safety, including identifying hazards to both responders and visitors

- Safe and efficient use of outdoor emergency care skills to prevent further injury to persons
